Public authorities in Wallonia explain the division of powers in the five Walloon provinces among the six competent authorities: the Walloon Region, the French Community, the German-speaking Community, the Federal Authority, the provinces and the communes.

The first section, Authorities, presents the structures of the Belgian federal state (institutional framework), the history of the Walloon Region (Wallonia : birth of a region) and each of the authorities working in Wallonia (the Walloon Region, the French Community, the German-speaking Community, the Federal Authority, the provinces and the communes).

The second section, Competencies, sets out the responsibilities of the authorities in each domain. You can choose a field of competency in the adjacent list, or enter a key-word in the search engine above.

You can as well consult the glossary or the table summing up all the responsibilities of all the authorities. Should a question pertaining to the division of powers in Wallonia remain unanswered after your visit to this site, please contact us using this form. We will try to answer you as soon as possible.
