Sport and leisure are the responsibility of the Communities.

The French and German-speaking Communities have legislative and financial responsibility in this area, the first in the French linguistic region and the second in the German linguistic region.

The communes and provinces can play the role of organising authority in this area.

The French Community has transferred responsibility for subsidising sporting infrastructure in the French linguistic region to the Walloon Region.
