Housing policy is the responsibility of the Walloon Region, which has defined its policy in the Walloon Housing Code. The Walloon Housing Agency (SWL) is one of the main players in Walloon housing policy.

The communes produce a three-yearly housing plan and also intervene through compulsory purchases of derelict housing, by participating in social housing agencies and by managing their property.
