The Federal Authority has kept its competencies in the field of communications.

It regulates the telecommunications market and the postal market. It has legislative power and control over all autonomous public enterprises: the Post Office (whose capital is held entirely by the State) and Belgacom, (whose capital is partially held by the State).

Another autonomous public company, Belgocontrol (whose capital is held entirely by the State) is responsible for air traffic safety.

Through general economic policy, and aid to companies in particular, the Walloon Region plays a role in the development of the telecommunications industry.
