Public authorities in Wallonia explain the division of powers in the five Walloon provinces among the six competent authorities: the Walloon Region, the French Community, the German-speaking Community, the Federal Authority, the provinces and the communes.

The first section, Authorities, presents the structures of the Belgian federal state (institutional framework), the history of the Walloon Region (Wallonia : birth of a region) and each of the authorities working in Wallonia (the Walloon Region, the French Community, the German-speaking Community, the Federal Authority, the provinces and the communes).
